Joe Colombo has been one of the most important figures in the international design landscape, a relentless and prolific designer, really shifted into the future.

His research and technological experimentation can be applied to every sector of production. Among the objects that he designed there are: armchairs, pieces of furniture, lamps, bathrooms, kitchens, reviewed according to a futuristic perspective, and multifunctional blocks.

An ironic and funny mood, which we can find in his productions, tones down the “science fiction” style and makes his objects easily usable.

POLTRONA ELDA, 1963

…” His most famous piece is a round, white and quilted leather armchair, called Elda, as his wife, and it looks a bit like his wife”.

Milano Dove/Milano Chi, 1969

The Elda armchair, characterized by a futuristic design, is an historical piece by Joe Colombo. The design of this item is a real testimony of the creative and ironic thinking of the Milanese designer.
This chair, characterized by an enveloping form, conveys a feeling of isolation and protection. Joe Colombo dedicated this armchair to his wife Elda.

COMBI CENTER, 1963

The Combi Center, designed in 1963, is a multifunctional, roll away piece of furniture formed by overlapping cylindrical objects made by wood and frosted aluminium.

“The tower furniture has a dimension and a shape likely to be exploited for every home-use (…), it is a rollaway piece of furniture, a concentric container, whose use has to be planned, since it cannot contain everything, but should contain what is needed at hand, within range (…)” (Vittorio Fagone and Ignazia Favata, 2011, Joe Colombo, Milano, 24 ORE Cultura, p.54), as it is defined by Joe Colombo himself.
